Truman's Jobs Before Presidency
Since Harry Truman could not afford to go to college he worked a variety of jobs. He was a timekeeper, a clerk, a bookkeeper, and after about 5 years, he went back home to farm and join the National Guard in 1906. After he got back in 1919, he married Bess Wallace and opened a clothing shop with his friend in Kansas City, but in 1922 it closed down due to debt. Later in 1922, Harry was elected judge in Jackson County, Missouri, with the help of Thomas Pendergast. He soon became presiding judge in 1926 and was elected again in 1930. In 1934 Truman was elected Senate, then in 1944 he was elected Vice President. Three months later he was elected president due to Roosevelt's sudden death.
